What happens to the fish we catch?
If you catch mahimahi, ono or ahi, we’ll filet up a generous portion of the day’s catch for you to enjoy during your stay. There are no traditional shipping and canning facilities here so we want to make sure no fish goes to waste. Hinatea emphasizes catch and release where billfish are concerned. You can still order a “mount” of your fish, even if it’s released. These days the actual fish is not used. Instead, detailed castings of the appropriate length, girth and color can be ordered. Just ask your crew on the way out.
I’ve never been deep sea sport fishing before!
That’s okay! Hinatea’s crew is very easy going. There’s never any judgement. We truly enjoy showing our clients how we do things out here. On the other-hand, if you HAVE experience offshore sport fishing, you’ll appreciate our diverse fishing styles. Particularly if we can get you onto some larger gamefish on lighter tackle! Hey, we love a fair fight!
How far offshore do you go?
That depends on a number of factors, specifically how long you’ll be fishing for, the weather conditions, the previous day’s bite and of course, “captain’s gut”
How rough will it be out there?
It could be as flat as glass, or the winds and seas could pick up. When winds get over about 20 knots or seas are really rough, the captain will usually cancel. Your safety and comfort is our primary concern. Be sure and contact us directly if you are concerned though. do NOT simply not show up!
Can we bring the kids?
Our minimum recommended age for shared charters is 12 years old. The minimum age for private charters is 8.
